Facts & Numbers
Performance:
Ballzauber placed 2nd and 3rd at his first show, the International Trakehner Bundesturnier in Hanover 2007. In the National Trakehner Championship for 3yr old Riding Horse Stallions, he finished 3rd and was selected by the Trakehner Verband to represent his breed at the prestigious Bundeschampionat in Warendorf that year.
Ballzauber finished his 30 day test at the State Stud Prussendorf in 2007 with the following scores: dressage 8.36; show jumping 8.07; total score 8.31. This placed him in the Top Five of that year's Trakehner stallions in 30 day tests in Germany.
 70 Day Test
Ballzauber passed an exceptional 70 day test at the State Stud Redefin in 2008. His dressage index was 123.51, his jumping index was 112.83 and his overall index was 123.71.
The 70-day test scores in detail:
In the 70-day test group, Ballzauber placed 4th as the only Trakehner among other warmblood breeds. In the dressage index, he ranked 3rd in this group of 25 stallions, in the jumping index, he placed 6th. In the entire year of 2007 among all tested Trakehner stallions, no other had a better overall index or jumping index. This is however, a hypothetical comparison. The German testing system does not allow for comparisions among different test sites, only among stallions in one test group.
Ballzauber was approved in Neumünster in 2006 and while one of the best jumpers there, went kind of unnoticed by many, but a few. Darren Chiacchia, USET member and Pan Am Gold medalist with Windfall *Pg*, spotted the youngster and bought this diamond in the rough. Less than 4 months later, Ballzauber made his first public appearance with about 6 weeks of training under saddle - and took the crowds in storm at the Handorf Stallion Show in Germany. Rhythm, balance and suspension at the highest level, along with great conformation and that extra bit of personality made him a favorite among mare owners and the busiest 3year old Trakehner in Germany: 51 mares were serviced, all via live cover and while the stallion competed at National level. During the 2007 and 2008 breeding seasons, Ballzauber stood at Trakehner Gestüt Gorlo in Melle. For his final season in Germany in 2009, he is now stationed in Florida.
Ballzauber's first foal crop was born in Germany in 2008 and received outstanding scores at foal inspections. Especially in terms of size, hind end engagement, uphill conformation and quality of the canter, his foals often showed clear improvement over the mothers. Ballzauber's foals were selected
Heritage
The sire of Ballzauber is the FEI dressage stallion Axis. Axis was the top jumper in NMS when he was approved (like his sire EH Sixtus before him and several other relative after him). Unlike Sixtus, he did not end up as a show jumper, but rather as a dressage horse with much success under Terhi Stegars for the British owners at Bluewood Stud. Axis also sired the exceptional premium stallion Hirtentanz in 2005, a show jumper of international quality with a great performance record (given his age) and an excellent foal crop on the ground in Germany. EH Sixtus had an international career in show jumping, was reserve champion in NMS and is the sire of over 10 approved sons worldwide, among them EH Buddenbrock (himself already sire of 10 approved sons and FEI dressage horses like the Grand prix offspring EH King Arthur TSF or Hinnerk TSF), the FEI dressage stallion Peron Junior, the ATA's Fandango and the much respected Sabary, to name a few. Sixtus' sire Habicht was a stallion of monumental importance for the breed, who produced a number of outstanding daughters (e.g. the 4 times stallion dam Arwetta) and great stallions (e.g. Seeadler, Coktail, Vivus, or EH Parforce) as well as top performance horses in all disciplines (e.g. the Olympian Windfall *Pg*, approved premium stallion, member of the exclusive Hanoverian Show Jumper Program and CCI**** eventer). Axis dressage talent comes mostly through his dam, who is a daughter of the FEI dressage stallion EH Angard, a son of EH Anduc and thus a member of the highly successful Halali - EH Marduc stallion line. Halali also sired the elite stallion Hyllos, the producer of international Grand Prix dressage horses like Habanera, Lamborghini and EH Solero TSF. The pedigree continues with more dressage blood through Herzbube (sire of e.g. the WEG Silver medalist EH Heuriger) and the Flaneur-son Instanbul.
On the dam side we find the NMS champion stallion Itaxerxes, who also had a FEI career in dressage and sired a number of excellent performance horses, among them show jumpers and dressage horses alike. Itaxerxes's tremendous movement potential most likely came through dam sire Cardinal xx, to this day one of the best movement producers in Germany, all breeds (as a TB!). Itaxerxes second dam was the mare Isolda, who also produced the exceptional Ibikus. The line continued with Marlon, a full brother to the major sire Mahagoni and a maternal half brother to the important EH Mackensen. With Virgil *E* in 4th generation, another top performance stallion appears in this highly interesting pedigree that like not many others, combines international performance genes for both dressage and show jumping, a fact very impressively demonstrated by Ballzauber's versatile talents!
The dam line of Blitzlicht (by Perlenfischer) also produced the stallions Blues, Blinker and the ATA's successful younger dressage stallion Baron Verdi. The basis of this mare family is the mare Bea (Count zu Dohna - Schlobitten), who established one of the best all around sport horse lines of the Trakehner breed with representatives at advanced levels in show jumping and dressage and such stallions as Boris (dam sire of Donauwind *E*), the FEI dressage stallions Balazar and Baluster as well as Baron, Bal Pare, E.H. Banditentraum, Beaujolais II, Belluno, Bel Espace Go, Bellini Go and Bellissimo.
